Tasis, Surrey – Romanian Children’s Relief! + Mission Updates!

Wendy has been taking students to Romania, with her to help with Romanian Children’s Relief. Two of the students that she took in June, helped care for abandoned babies and a group of Romanian children. The project had been started by a former Tasis student.

The school has done charitable work for Redwings Horse Sanctuary.

The school has linked up with Richard Dunne at Ashley to see what work they have been doing for the environment. A group of students are going to set up an environmental club in September.

Wendy has also been invited to Antartica by Robert Swan, where they will investigate sustainable energy and leadership. So in light of this Wendy has started a club called …

Ringwood School, Hampshire – Mission Update!

Some of the children are doing individual projects, whether on animals, fungi, plants.

The school has a climate change garden which educates the children about being aware of climate change and its affects on the environment. The garden includes native plants and
vegetables which they are selling at the school gates.

They are currently building an invertebrate habitat, which is a very extensive project for them.

The school is a big follower of Fairtrade and two year 8s as well as two year 11s gave a presentation on Fairtrade at a recent fair-trade conference.

The school is also heavily involved with recycling and are one of the best recyclers in Hampshire. They are leading 9 other schools in a sustainable schools initiative.

Porthleven School, Cornwall – Mission Update!

The schools is setting up a bird camera so that the children can see the hatching of chicks in the bird boxes.

They have a productive garden with vegetable sales.

The school is very focused towards being environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Pennington Infant School, Hampshire – Mission Update!

The Roots & Shoots program has been introduced to the school through art to both the kids and their parents, who have made banners with their Roots & Shoots pledges attached.

One of the teachers in the school travels to Peru and so the children have sent their old jumpers to Peruvian children, who have replied with photographs of them dressed in the jumpers.

The school is also in the process of starting a Sensory Garden.

Jubilee Primary School, London – Mission Update!

The school has been working on a regular basis with the local Wildlife Trust centre, indentifying plants and animals.

Children have written letters to local businesses to ask them to stop using plastic bags.

Gollop Prep School, Carmarthenshire – Mission Update!

The school have been sponsoring a Gorilla named Djeke.

A spell-a-thon was held which raised £1000 for Mencap as well as holding a teddy bears picnic on sports day, raising money for Macmillan.

The garden is in full swing and a sensory garden has just been added. The school is also going to be in the press for protesting about Road Safety in the area, which has been causing a few problems.

Crompton House C of E School, Lancashire – 5 Years of Roots & Shoots!

The Roots & Shoots group has been running for 5 years.

This year a lot of the focus has been directed towards cancer awareness. £700 was raised for Marie Curie. A garden was dug over to spell the word HOPE and the children planted daffodils in the word, so that they would bloom every spring. Additionally a book of memories was written and printed – full of the memories of children that had been affected by cancer.

A Wildlife garden is also coming together nicely in the schools garden.

£300 was raised to sponsor animals.

Cambourne Science and Community Centre, Cornwall – Mission Update!

‘Hub Club’ – a club for children from year groups 7,8 and 9, who have behavioural disabilities, have unstable homes or who are vulnerable due to different circumstances.

The school has linked with Tony/ Tong Liu from Shanghai, who they support in his tiger conservation efforts.

Newquay Zoo – the kids have linked with Newquay Zoo and are currently supporting them by making enrichment toys out of paper mache.

Ashley C of E Primary School’s Vegetable Garden – Mission Update!

The Roots & Shoots Group is spending a lot of time outside in their vegetable garden. They have two teams which alternate each week to tend to the garden and look after the 3 chickens currently being installed. The children feed, water and clean the chickens on a daily basis. There is also a pond within the garden to encourage other forms of wildlife.
