Recipes

November is traditionally the month when we ask schools to raise money to support Roots & Shoots initiatives. In previous years, you have raised money for Tchimpounga, Jane Goodall’s Chimpanzee Sanctuary in the Republic of Congo and we hope that you will be inspired to help us even more this year.

In order to help get you started, we have asked two celebrity chefs, Sophie Grigson and James McIntosh, to each contribute two of their recipes to the Roots & Shoots website. You could print the recipes off and design your own school recipe book, perhaps adding some of your own favourite recipes (you might like to ask teachers, parents, local restaurants and the school dinner ladies for some additional ideas!) You can then raise money for Roots & Shoots by selling your school’s recipe book or by cooking and selling some of the recipes at a school event. Why not try both?

Here are two recipes from Sophie Grigson:

You can also download all the recipes in one handy pdf document, or download a blank recipe activity sheet for your own creations.

The Highlands and Islands Team have contributed some great recipes that are perfect for people who are on a gluten free diet:

Please email us with any other fundraising ideas you may have, and make sure you share your favourite recipes with us! If we like them we will put them on the site for others schools to try!

Help us keep our resources free!

All of our resources are currently free and you can help them to stay that way and support the other work of Roots & Shoots in the UK by making a donation, no matter how small. The easiest way to donate to the Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots programme UK online is by using Virgin Money Giving. This can be a one off donation for any amount you want (every pound helps!) or if you prefer you can set up a regular, monthly donation.
