Dr Jane Goodall DBE today celebrated the 1000th UK school (Cranmer Primary School from Surrey) to join Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Education Programme.

Executive Director Tara Golshan said, ‘I am delighted that nearly a million children are now engaged with Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots programme which encourages children to implement practical positive change for people, animals and the environment. The future is in their hands, and by encouraging their involvement we give them the skills, hope and confidence to make it a better one.’

The Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Awards 2010

As part of Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots programme, schools from across the UK were invited to Regent’s Park, London last week to take part in a prestigious Awards ceremony in the presence of Dr Jane Goodall.

The event took place at the Zoological Society of London’s headquarters – a charity devoted to the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats and where Dr Jane saw her first chimpanzee.

Students prepared creative showcases of their contribution in the area of people, animals and the environment and described to Dr. Goodall and the other participants and guests what they had achieved, why it was important and how they would build on their work for the future preservation of the planet.

LOCAL YOUTH CAME TOGETHER ON 19th SEPTEMBER TO CELEBRATE PEACE IN LONDON
London UK– Following the lead of their hero – renowned primatologist Jane Goodall, Ph.D., DBE – young people from across the UK came together in London for a Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Day of Peace event on 19th September from 11:00am to 4:00pm at Greater London Authority, Main Entrance City Hall, The Queen’s Walk, More London. Young people who are members of Roots & Shoots, Jane Goodall’s global environmental and humanitarian youth program, hosted a peace dove parade to support the United Nations International Day of Peace.
