After the Roots & Shoots Annual Awards 2009 held in December, here is what our visiting members had to say:
“I would like to thank you for the invitation to the Jane Goodall Institute on Monday. Visiting you was a major and special event as you had recognized the valuable work that our “Afri-Twin” project had and continues to carry out.
Mixing with other groups and seeing how their various projects were run, has given us ideas about some aspects of our project as well as furthering “Environmental Awareness” which we will pass on to our school and our African Twin. We hope in time that overseas projects will have the opportunity to visit London to celebrate their success.”

What are the awards?
At the end of each school term, the team at Roots & Shoots will be reviewing the Mission Updates and Completed Projects that member schools have been posting about their Roots & Shoots activities. We then give bronze, silver and gold awards to the best projects to commend your hard work. This year, we have introduced two new additional awards categories, The Jane Goodall Award for Individual Endeavour, and Best Photographic Entry.
How do I submit a project entry, has anything changed?
To submit a project for consideration, simply log-in to the Roots & Shoots website and post a story for your school. You can post as many project updates as you wish! You can …

On the 21st September, 2008, Jane Goodall PhD, DBE, founder, renowned primatologist and UN messenger for peace, will encourage youth across the globe, to join together to celebrate the universal desire for peace.

Roots & Shoots have recently formed a partnership with the charity Red Balloon. JGI are encouraging Roots & Shoots groups in Liverpool and across the UK to help raise money for the Red Balloon appeal as part of their human community projects.
The first Red Balloon Learner Centre was set up in a private home in Cambridge in 1996. The vision was to provide an ‘intensive care’ programme of full-time education in a safe learning environment for children unable to go to school because they had been severely bullied. There are now Centres offering a safe learning environment for students of secondary-age in Cambridge, Norwich and Northwest London at Harrow.

Help make World Animal Day 2008 the Biggest and Best Yet
Although it’s only the end of April, now is the time to start thinking about how you’re going to celebrate World Animal Day this year to benefit your organisation.
Even if you don’t have a lot of spare time, there are plenty of fundraising / educational ideas on the website that don’t take much organising and, by starting to think about it now you can spread the workload. Also, if you enlist plenty of help the sky’s the limit! It might be that you already have an event planned that could become a World Animal Day celebration.

One hundred youth from six continents and 28 countries were brought together by world-renowned primatologist Jane Goodall, PhD, DBE, to attend Jane Goodall’s Global Youth Summit. The first annual event, which took place at Walt Disney World Resort® from April 19-25, mobilized the young leaders to address the critical issues facing the planet. At the Summit’s end, the attendees headed home with a commitment to make positive change happen and the hope that - together - they can make the world a better place.
Participants were hand-picked by Dr. Goodall, the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) and partner organizations to take part in the all-expenses-paid, first-of-its-kind event. All attendees were outstanding young people with a strong history of community …

One of the friends of Roots & Shoots is organising a tour of the parks and the nature reserves of the north East Adriatic sea, with profits being put towards Roots & Shoots and Reserva Naturale Regionale Foce Dell’Isonzo. Full details available here (pdf file).

The Jane Goodall Global Leadership Awards honor organizations and individuals who share Dr. Jane’s values, vision and commitment to making a positive difference in the world for all living things. As part of the Jane Goodall Institute’s Roots & Shoots programme, schools from across the UK were invited to London yesterday for the first ever Roots & Shoots Awards ceremony. They were honoured to meet Dr Jane Goodall (world famous chimpanzee expert and conservationist) and to present their projects.
The event took place at the Louise T Blouin Institute - one of the largest not-for-profit cultural spaces in London and a showcase for established and emerging artists - recently opened in Notting Hill to promote creative thinking through culture.
Students prepared creative showcases of their contribution in the area of people, animals and the environment and described to Dr. Goodall and the other participants what they had achieved, why it was …
