Dr. Jane Goodall Ph.D., DBE and founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, returns to the University of Cambridge where she earned her PhD.
She will be giving a lecture entitled “Reasons for Hope” on December 4th at 4:00 pm in Lady Mitchell Hall, Sidgwick Site, off Sidgwick Avenue. The lecture will be followed by a charity reception at 6:15pm in Sidgwick Hall, Newnham College. This event will include book signing, organic vegetarian food, juice and wine. Tickets for the lecture cost £5 and £8.50, which includes two glasses of wine. All funds will go to the Tchimpounga sanctuary, reserve and community in the Republic of Congo, focusing on the empowerment and education of girls.

Children in Brockenhurst joined thousands of young people around the world who are heeding Dr. Jane Goodall’s call to express their desire for peace in ceremonies that include the flight of Peace Dove puppets.
The children, in a joint initiative with the New Forest Carbon Footprint project, took part in both making and displaying Peace Doves at the Brockenhurst Village Hall at the weekend.

CHARLIE DIMMOCK (an English gardening expert and presenter) who was supporting the Carbon Footprint project took part in the peace day activities with the children as well as the project opening ceremony and prize giving.

In the presence of Dr Jane Goodall herself, St Michael’s primary school undertook a whole week of Roots & Shoots activities in Bournemouth. They are the first school in the UK to devote a full week of lessons and timetable to the Jane Goodall Institute Roots & Shoots education programme joining a network of thousands of young people around the world who undertake Roots & Shoots activities in over 100 countries. The programme, established by the Jane Goodall Institute empowers young people to take positive action on behalf of people, animals and the environment.

In July this year Dr Jane was the guest of honour at the international World Scout Jamboree in Hylands Park, Chelmsford.
As part of this special occasion JGI UK delivered a number of Roots & Shoots educational workshops in the global development village.

Dr Jane spoke to over 2,000 young scouts from around the world about the opportunities they have to make a change, chimpanzee and human similarities, her beginnings and her mother’s influence, the threats facing chimpanzees and the environment through to the development of Roots & Shoots and her hope for the future. She then took part in one of the Roots & Shoots workshops with 20 young scouts.
