Bees nest

This is a big thank you to Roots & Shoots Mission Possible members in Craiglea, Inverness. They kindly sent a few bees nests to hang in our sensory garden. The flowers are starting to bloom and hopefully the bees will nest. We will update you when it happens. They answered the SOS we posted on the Roots & Shoots website.

So thanks again to Hannah and the team in Scotland, and thank you Roots & Shoots.

Pennington Infants needs your advice!

Posted on January 13th, 2010 by Agent Searle

The sensory garden at Pennington Infants’ School is up and running! The gnarly, old oak tree now has sturdy decking around it and the raised flower beds wait  in anticipation for planting. The paths are ready for the trample of excited little feet and the insect boxes await many-legged friends.

But we may have a problem – how do we entice them without the flora? Please can you give us advice on how to fill our garden with wonderful plants on a very small budget?

Pennington Infants’ School Plants 3 New Trees – Mission Update!

Posted on January 13th, 2010 by Agent Searle

Pennington Infant School has recently planted three new trees in our playground. We had a small grass verge with a few rose bushes but they were a bit too prickly for the children to play around! So we relocated them to flower beds at the front of the school and put three Silver Birches in their place.  Once they have bedded in we hope to build seating areas around them to fully utilise the area.

Pennington Infant School, Hampshire – Mission Update!

Posted on July 11th, 2008 by Agent Searle

The Roots & Shoots program has been introduced to the school through art to both the kids and their parents, who have made banners with their Roots & Shoots pledges attached.

One of the teachers in the school travels to Peru and so the children have sent their old jumpers to Peruvian children, who have replied with photographs of them dressed in the jumpers.

The school is also in the process of starting a Sensory Garden.
