Bournemouth Council to Honour Dr Jane Goodall DBE, Founder – the Jane Goodall Institute & UN Messenger of Peace
On Monday 31st January Bournemouth resident Dr Jane Goodall DBE, Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and  UN Messenger of Peace joined forces with the Mayor of Bournemouth to plant an oak tree in honour of 50 years of her ground-breaking work with chimpanzees and to celebrate the 200 years of Bournemouth under the 200 trees initiative.

The tree was planted between the War Memorial and the tennis centre in the central gardens. A plaque reads:

OAK – Quercus robur
Planted to Honour
Dr Jane Goodall, DBE
Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute
& UN Messenger of Peace

The Roots & Shoots Awards 2009

As part of Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots programme, schools from across the UK were invited to Regent’s Park, London this week to take part in a prestigious Awards ceremony in the presence of Dr Jane Goodall and Livia Firth.

The event took place at the Zoological Society of London’s headquarters – a charity devoted to the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats and where Dr Jane saw her first chimpanzee.

Students prepared creative showcases of their contribution in the area of people, animals and the environment and described to Dr. Goodall and the other participants and guests what they had achieved, why it was important and how they would …

Peace Day Message from Dr. Jane Goodall

Warm greetings from Arlington, VA! I hope everyone is getting excited for the Roots & Shoots International Day of Peace celebrations that are planned around the world.

Last week, Dr. Jane taped a video message for all our members and friends who will celebrate with us on this special day. The JGI-USA video team was kind enough to format it and add the wonderful music of Dana Lyons’ “Circle the World”, our Day of Peace theme song.

Dr. Jane Goodall Takes Rotary by Storm!

Keynote speech draws over 20,000 Rotarians from around the world

Dr. Goodall addressed over 20,000 Rotarians from nearly 120 countries during her keynote address at the 100th International Rotary Convention in Birmingham, UK on June 24th.

Speaking against a backdrop of flags from around the world, Dr. Goodall shared her message that every individual matters and that every individual can make a difference each day. She highlighted how similar Rotary and Roteract are to her international youth service program, Roots & Shoots, and how collaboration in service is possible between the two organizations.

ACS Hillingdon gets a visit from Dr. Jane!

The middle school students at ACS Hillingdon are involved with Roots & Shoots. Three projects have been the focus this year: Eco-friendly week, helping homeless youth in the local community and a Charity Walk (supporting the vital work of UNICEF, Roots & Shoots and Starlight Children’s Foundation). ACS Hillingdon International School received a Roots & Shoots Gold award for our commitment to helping communities, animals and the environment. This was presented to us by Dr. Goodall herself while visiting ACS Hillingdon!

Dr Goodall lecture and book signing at Oxford Union

Dame Jane Goodall PhD, DBE is a British UN Messenger of Peace, primatologist, ethologist, and anthropologist.

She is famous for her 50-year study of chimpanzee social and family interactions in Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania and for founding the Jane Goodall Institute.

She will be talking about her experiences as well as signing her book Reason for Hope.

Dr Goodall travels over 300 days of the year and this is a rare opportunity to hear her speak. We hope you will be able to join us.
