This year we were invited to participate in Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Walk for Peace. Recognizing the importance of education and communication the Green Girls and the three Year 4 classes created Doves for Peace. While the Year 4s celebrated with a walk in our local park, the Green Team toured London. We met with the Roots & Shoots team, were told all about Jane Goodall’s Mr. H. Junior, and held our Doves high. It was a great day which helped to solidify this year’s new team and helped give the girls a sense of purpose as they were able to share their ideas with those in the community who inevitably stopped to talk.

We have enjoyed an incredible autumn with stunning weather, beautiful sunsets and a wealth of nature’s awe-inspiring colour. However on the 19th of September we took part ( in honour of Peace Day) in what we are sure was one of the wettest Tesco Community Fairs ever held; the weather was so bad that it put a serious dent in our hopes of achieving 1,000 Peace Day Pledges from the public, and at one point it was so bad we despaired of reaching double fugures. However Rhona Brindle the stores Community Champion remained upbeat in spite of the atrocious conditions and whilst the band played on, free bacon butties and bottles of drinking water were passed around restoring …

Anglia Ruskin University’s Roots & Shoots society flew a giant Peace dove to mark our international day of peace. The society joined in with the celebratory walk, from Ely cathedral to Jesus Green in Cambridge. The walk was organized to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the diocese of Ely as well as the 800th anniversary of Cambridge University, as well as to acknowledge the lasting relationship between the two institutions.

The 17 mile walk commenced after a short service at Ely cathedral and progressed in to Cambridge. Roots & Shoots society members …

Dear Friends,
Warm greetings from Arlington, VA! I hope everyone is getting excited for the Roots & Shoots International Day of Peace celebrations that are planned around the world.
Last week, Dr. Jane taped a video message for all our members and friends who will celebrate with us on this special day. The JGI-USA video team was kind enough to format it and add the wonderful music of Dana Lyons’ “Circle the World”, our Day of Peace theme song.
You can access the video through YouTube and Vimeo or you can download it from Yousendit.

Dear Roots & Shoots Members,
Welcome to Autumn.
What an exciting year this has been
for us!
We now have 79 schools signed up to the Roots & Shoots programme with more schools joining us every day. We have seen some interesting developments.
In July we had an invitation to visit No 10 Downing Street and met with the PM’s advisor on the Environment, Michael Jacobs. The Government have now pledged to support our Roots & Shoots
programme.
For the first time we celebrated International Day of Peace in London on the 21st September. At the same time as parading our Giant Peace Doves, we also managed to raise money for the James Bulger Red Balloon memorial centre in Liverpool that helps bullied children restore …

Dear Roots & Shoots members,
Welcome to Summer!
That has a lovely ring to it doesn’t it? June is my favourite month of the year – the herald of Summer, the longer days, the light mornings and most importantly the beautiful cherry blossom.
The last few months have been very rewarding. We enjoyed a visit from Jane in May to both Oxford and Edinburgh. We are also exploring some very exciting projects with both ZSL (the Zoological Society of London) and Eco-Schools.
Both ZSL and the Ecology Centre in Holland Park plan to start their very own Roots & Shoots groups who meet on a regular basis to implement hands on Roots & Shoots projects in their localities.
Moreover, Roots & Shoots are going into …
