January 2008 – July 2009
The highlight of January 2008 was our submission for the coveted Green Flag and confirmation on 11th January, after rigorous questioning by the two Assessors, that our school had more than achieved the level required. We were all delighted and the flag is now in place overlooking our playground and new sustainable wooden and copper classrooms.

The highlight of June 2009 was winning the coveted DSCF Sustainable School’s National Teaching Award for the West of England.

We were also thrilled to hear in June 2009 that our Comenius bid has been approved for two years from September 2009. This is a monthly project linking Poland, Cyprus, Italy and France entitled “From Acorns to Eco Warriors”.

Turner’s Hill School – The Road To Sustainability!

Turners Hill School, has for 17 years, been involved in food and farming. We were adopted by a dairy farm for almost 13 years which each class visited at least once a term. We produced a scheme of work based on the work done on the farm which we linked very closely to the National Curriculum. Unfortunately the farmer and his wife left the area and the farm is now managed in a very different way.

We decided that we wanted to develop our school grounds even more and approached the local land owner, who agreed we could manage a strip of land for growing purposes. For several years now we have been developing this area which we now call our …

Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship

Rogerstone Primary is continuously working towards becoming a more sustainable school for all; Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship is always at the forefront of our work.  In September 2006, our new school premises opened.  The building was the first of its kind in Wales; a sustainable school.  When designing the new building the School Council and most importantly, the Eco-Committee played a vital role in the developing and planning of the new school.  The work they put in, as well as the advice from other specialists means our school has a variety of sustainable features.  Two of the main features are: a sedum roof to collect rainwater which is …
