I won the Roots & Shoots Most Outstanding Photographic Award and the prize was a trip to the national geographic HQ in London, then a preview of the new Childrens zoo in ZSL. I got to stay at the zoo and see the other animals for the afternoon too.First, in the morning I went to the National Geographic kids HQ in Clarckenwell, London. There I met the team who put together the NG Kids magazine, they were all very friendly. I was then introduced to the editor who told me about the journey of the magazine and how they find all their fascinating stories. I was also given a copy of the front cover of the magazine with my face on it which now has pride of place in my bedroom and a free copy of the months' edition. My trip inspired me to buy a subscription to the magazine and read all the wonderful stories inside.Tim Herbert, the Editor of NG KIDS said: "It was lovely to meet Nerys when she visited the Nat Geo Kids office. It's always a pleasure to support the annual Roots & Shoots Awards, and to witness the wonderful work of children across the UK who care so deeply about our planet."On my amazing trip to London Zoo I saw a rainy preview of the new Animal Adventure Childrens zoo. In Animal Adventure they are aiming to get the children as close to nature as possible by bringing some of the animals out of their enclosures to do shows every half an hour. There was even a porcupine crossing painted onto the path so the porcupines could cross safely from their house to the display area. In 2017 there was a tragic fire which burnt down the old Children's zoo in ZSL so they built the fantastic new animal adventure. It is a fun place for families to spend a sunny day getting wet in the fountains and sailing the seven seas on Darwin’s HMS Beagle climbing frame.Thank you Roots & Shoots and NG KIDS Magazine for organising this wonderful day for me!!By Nerys Meeran, Year 5, James Allens Girls School
