Newsletter – Winter 2012

Dear Roots & Shoots Members,

I can’t believe it is the end of the year. Where did 2012 go? Does anyone know? Time seems to be going faster as the years go on which raises a very important question.

What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind? Anne Campbell, an English politician, once said ‘to live in hearts we leave behind is not to die’…but I guess it depends on what kind of life we have lived and whether or not we would want to be remembered for our deeds.
At Roots & Shoots we can be proud of our legacy – we really do make a difference. You can see it in the faces of our members, the lives of the people that we help, the improving nature of the environment and the contentment of the animals that we care for.
This year has seen us develop some exciting new partnerships. Most recently we have begun new fashion ventures at both Copenghagen and Holland Park School in the area of upcycling in the Fashion Industry. Working with our very own industry expert on this exciting project, Nicola Giuggioli, CEO of Eco Age. Look out for his article in our next edition on the challenges of the eco fashion industry.
The great thing about the programme is that you don’t have to worry about saving the whole world and combating climate change all at once. You can start off by keeping it simple! Small day to day actions such as turning the lights and the TV off and recycling your rubbish can make a big difference in the grand scheme of time.
And don’t forget, Every great journey starts with a single step!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.
