Exciting enterprise in Primary 3

Primary 3 have been learning all about Malawi. They have been looking at what it’s like to go to school in Malawi, the local foods, clothes and making comparisons with living in Scotland. They were really interested to see that some of the classrooms in Malawi are outside and that they don’t always have electricity.

The children also talked about how some of the children in Malawi don’t always have enough to eat and they wanted to do something about. After a little bit of research the children discovered a charity called Mary’ Meals – ‘At Mary’s Meals, we are focused on one goal – that every child receives a nutritious daily meal in a place of education.’ They discovered that it only costs £13.90 to feed a child for a whole school year.

To raise some money Primary 3 came up with a plan! They decided to make something to sell, a ‘Make your own Gingerbread Man kit’. The children measured out all of the ingredients and out them in a little gift bag and along with a cutter and the recipe. They write letters to their parents explaining what they had made and what they were raising money for, and then they sold their kits to anyone who had put an order it. The children raised an amazing £180 to send to Mary’s Meals! Well done Primary 3!
