We all want to do our part to make the world a better place, but sometimes it can be hard to know where to start, and the task at hand can seem huge and daunting. But that’s where No Waste November comes in – it’s an easy, fun way to make a difference!
What is No Waste November?
No Waste November is all about inspiring action to reduce waste and to think about the effect what we throw away has on the environment, climate change and conservation.
Over the month, Roots & Shoots invites you to notice and reduce your daily waste in simple and creative ways. Even little changes add up to a big difference on a global scale!
It’s been running since 2017, and since then there have been thousands of people around the world taking part, reducing their waste and making a difference. This year, we want even more people to join in, so invite your friends, family, classmates, colleagues and friends to get involved too!
How does it work and how can I get involved?
It’s really simple! There are two ways you can take part.
The NOVaste Calendar
Every day we’ll post a challenge, idea or suggestion for something you can do to reduce your waste. Each week of the challenge will have a different theme; week one is all about mental and physical health, week two will focus on food waste, week three is all about activities and week four is about presents and communities – perfect in the lead-up to Christmas!
Every day we’ll be popping up a prompt on our NOVaste Calendar (see what we did there?) which you can use to inspire and motivate you.
We know that people across the UK and in other parts of the world are in different situations at the moment because of the pandemic, so you might not be able to follow the prompt exactly – but that doesn’t matter! Just use it for inspiration and come up with amazing yourself!
And you don’t need to stick to these ideas either. If you have a project or idea you’d like to work on to reduce waste, then go for it! The more ideas we have, the more people taking action and spreading the word, the bigger the difference we can make together!
Make a pledge
If you want to keep things simple then how about our No Waste November pledges? All you need to do is decide on one action you’re going to take over November to reduce you waste, pop it on one of our pledge cards (you can download and print it out or just do it on your phone, computer or tablet), take a photo of yourself with your pledge card and share it on social media with the hashtag #NoWasteNovember
There are loads of different pledges you can make, but if you’re stuck, how about picking one of the ones below?
- Travel by bike or walk for the month
- Only use reusable water bottle for the month
- Avoid buying food that comes in plastic wrapping
- Use up all my leftovers and avoid throwing out any food
Don’t forget to spread the word and celebrate your achievements
We think every positive action deserves a little appreciation, so don’t forget to give yourself a pat on the back for everything you do – and to give your friends, family and colleagues a thumbs up too!
We also want to give you a virtual pat on the back, and help you inspire others, so when you complete a challenge, make a change or come up with a brilliant idea, don’t forget to let us (and everyone else) know about it!
