As you may have guessed from all our posts, everyone at Goat Lees works very hard at making our school as eco-friendly as possible. The importance of not only making sure our school grounds embrace nature, making it a wonderful place for all living things to inhabit (the biodiversity of our school is something we are extremely proud of) but we want to make our school as energy efficient as possible whilst educating all our staff, pupils and pupils’ parents to work towards the same goal.
We are very proud, that after lots of hard work, we have been recognised for all our efforts and have been awarded an Eco-School Green Flag Accreditation, with Distinctions, for our school. We are now waiting to see what this means for our school and, hopefully, we get another certificate to add to our ever growing collection – we now need to organise a proper area to showcase all our achievements.
After the thrill of reading the email to confirm and congratulate us on our new Eco-School status, through the post we received a beautifully carved wooden plaque from The Woodland Trust for recognition of all the trees we have planted in our school, along with our wild meadow and nature pond. Our Roots & Shoots Eco Group were so excited to receive such a beautiful award; we have already achieved Bronze and Silver ‘Green Tree School’ status, and this was for achieving Gold.
If that was not enough, an email arrived this afternoon to say we had been successful in our application for the ‘Wilder Kent Awards 2022’ from the Kent Wildlife Trust. We were very excited to see we had achieved a Bronze level award; we are so proud!
Even though we have received many awards for our achievements, and for most, there are no higher levels to attain, this is not why we do it. Of course, it is fantastic to receive recognition for all the children and adults do at the school, and we love nothing more than showing them off, but all this hard work and dedication is because we care so much about our planet and want others to care as much as we do. Awards or not, we will continue to do all we can to help our planet be a better place for all living things; the awards are just a nice little extra.
