The ‘Mealbarrow’ competition

We recently entered an exciting ‘Mealbarrow’ competition that was set up by Sustainable Schools Leicester.

The competition involved planning a three-course meal, and growing at least five of the ingredients in a wheelbarrow.

The Eco Team designed a tasty menu, and they planted up a wheelbarrow with baby corn, strawberries, spinach, carrots and peppers. They tended to the fruit and vegetables and decorated the wheelbarrow beautifully!  The competition entries were displayed at Abbey Pumping Station for public votes.  The judges thought that the children entered ‘a visual, pretty design with bright colours and easy-to-read menu.’

Although we didn’t win, it was a valuable experience for the children, and promoted healthy eating and growing your own vegetables!
