Eton Student Looks to Spread Roots & Shoots to More Secondary Schools and Universities

Thomas G., the founder and leader of Roots & Shoots at Eton College, is interested in seeing Roots & Shoots groups at more high schools and universities around the world.

In late August, he was able to schedule a visit to the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) USA headquarters in Washington, D.C., to learn more about how to accomplish that goal.

At the headquarters, Thomas was fortunate to meet with Julia Whelan, Special Assistant to JGI Executive Director Anna Rathmann, and Kathleen Kelly, the JGI USA Roots & Shoots Program Director. They discussed the Roots & Shoots Youth Council, Youth Council Summit gatherings, US Basecamps, and global chapters and projects. Whelan and Kelly encouraged Thomas to think about projects that appeal to older teens and university-aged students, as he considers ways to encourage new Roots & Shoots groups at secondary schools and universities.
