Helping those further afield

One of our members of staff recently spent his sabbatical in Kenya, where he had an incredibly enriching and memorable experience. During his time there, he taught cricket and English in local schools, supported a community initiative providing sanitary products for girls, and worked closely with an orphanage on the outskirts of Nakuru.

At the orphanage, a mural displays the words 'Bamba Mtoi', Swahili for 'Make a child smile.' Motivated by this message & inspired by the needs he witnessed, he fundraised to help the orphanage purchase a minibus.

The Prep School donated funds awarded through the Roots & Shoots Compassion in Action Award to support the project, as well as raising further funds through a non-uniform day.  This minibus will enable the children to travel to school safely, removing the need for a daily five-mile round trip on foot, often in very challenging weather conditions. Its already making a meaningful difference to so many children.
