Model COP event at Sevenoaks School
On the 9th of October 2025, three upper sixth Sevenoaks students - Bianca Agarwal, Sophie Thornes, and Georgina Hadden - organised and hosted the first Model COP event at Sevenoaks School.
Inspired by the Conference of the Parties (COP), the event brought together students from six different schools to simulate these discussions and invited them to propose their own collaborative climate solutions.
“As organisers of the Model COP event, we wanted to create a space where students from different schools could come together to engage with real environmental issues through collaboration and debate. Our goal was to inspire young people to think critically about the climate crisis and recognise the influence they have in shaping change within their communities. Seeing students from various schools - from local state to independent and grammar backgrounds - share ideas, challenge perspectives, and collaboratively form resolutions on global issues was incredibly rewarding. Having Jasmina, Director of Outreach at JGI UK, close the event with a moving speech dedicated to the late Dr Jane and the ethos of Roots & Shoots, reminded us all of the importance of compassion, action, and hope.
What made it even more special was hearing how much the student and guest schools enjoyed the event. Many even suggested making the event an annual legacy, with a different school hosting each year.
Knowing that our Model COP has inspired continuity and sparked curiosity, is something we’re truly proud of. We’re delighted to have birthed what we hope will become a lasting tradition that empowers young people to speak up, collaborate, and act for our planet.” - Bianca Agarwal
