Book spotlight: Edd Moore’s 100 ideas for Primary Teachers
Climate change is the greatest challenge of our time, but schools can be a powerful force for positive change. In this blog, Edd Moore shares insights from his new book, 100 Ideas for Primary Teachers: Greener School, offering 100 practical ideas to help teachers and pupils create a culture of sustainability and inspire the next generation of climate leaders.
Climate change and the threats to our environment present us all with the greatest challenge to our lives and to the lives of future generations. This book helps schools to create a culture of sustainability to encourage children to lead their schools and communities, empowering the next generation to deal positively with the climate crisis that threatens us all, leaving a lasting legacy.
Published by Bloomsbury, with a Foreword by Dr Jane Goodall DBE, this book will support teachers, trainee teachers, leadership teams, and school staff to start their environmental journey or to carry it on towards zero carbon. The 100 ideas are all tried and tested practical activities and projects that I have used in my teaching over the last 13 years. These can be woven through subjects and a school’s curriculum. This handbook supports school staff who can pick up the book and refer to it throughout, giving them continuous support and guidance about what and how they can teach climate change, saving them time and energy.
Edd Moore said: “I have always admired the work that Dr Jane Goodall has done from when I was a child to being part of the Jane Goodall Roots & Shoots Programme as a Teacher and Eco Coordinator over the last decade. I embedded Roots & Shoots within my previous state schools’ curriculum, where every class focused on a project related to their enquiry question each half term to help people, animals and the environment. I led this school in Dorset to the UK Jane Goodall Roots & Shoots Award in 2019, which was a special moment. I have carried on the Roots & Shoots Programme at Green School Bali, where I recently worked, leading environmental projects across the school community. I am always promoting Jane's good work across the schools I work with and encouraging them to sign up to the Roots & Shoots Programme.”
Jane Goodall Roots & Shoots features as Idea 97 in the Essential Support Chapter.
