Eco-Schools & Food for Life Celebration At City Hall, Leicester
On June 28th 2017, Eco-Schools and Food for Life celebrated the hard work of schools in Leicester at a joint Celebration in City Hall. They welcomed 15 schools along with over 30 guest judges including 6 City Councillors and representatives from many local and national environmental organisations. The event was an opportunity for schools to showcase projects, which have taken place over the last 12 months. One of the judges, Tara Golshan, Executive Director, Education at the Jane Goodall Institute said: "The work of the schools in Leicester was especially impressive as students produced some amazing environmental projects with limited resources and financial constraints. I was truly touched by the resourcefulness and dedication of these young members and their teachers."Activities came from a wide selection of project ideas including recycling, extinction, the refugee crisis, biodiversity and tree planting. Judges commented again how difficult it was to pick winners with such enthusiastic students and staff. Following the more formal judging, students were given the opportunity to judge the other schools’ stalls and pick their Eco-Factor. Prizes were kindly announced and awarded by Cllr Rory Palmer, Deputy City Mayor & Cllr Adam Clarke, Assistant Mayor for Energy and Sustainability.
