Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots Annual Awards 2011
As part of Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots programme, schools from across the UK were invited to Regent’s Park, London to take part in a prestigious Awards ceremony in the presence of Dr Jane Goodall.The event took place at the Zoological Society of London’s headquarters - a charity devoted to the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats and where Dr Jane saw her first chimpanzee.Students prepared creative showcases of their contribution in the area of people, animals and the environment and described to Dr. Goodall and the other participants and guests what they had achieved, why it was important and how they would build on their work for the future preservation of the planet. Schools were presented with certificates and trophies from Dr. Jane Goodall.The students from Pembridge Hall Preparatory School for Girls from London took the Gold Award for the Most Outstanding Group and will enjoy an educational trip to Brussels, Belgium in 2013, funded by the Belgian Tourist Office, who sponsor Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots programme.Bethany Ecroyd Sixth Form student from Accrington St. Christopher’s Church of England School, Lancashire won the Most Outstanding Individual Award and will be joining other young people to take part in an overseas development project proudly sponsored by Quest OverseasTara Golshan, Executive Director, Education said The projects this year were outstanding and exceeded all our expectations. The young people were creative and highly motivated in their quest to make a difference which was demonstrated by the impact their work was having on our environment. Roots & Shoots now has over 1500 groups in the UK alone and educational programs in 120 countries with thousands of young people involved across the globe.
