Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots celebrates 20th Anniversary!
Warm greetings and best wishes in 2011. This year on February 19 2011, we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots.
2011 marks an inspiring milestone for Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots, the Jane Goodall Institute’s global environmental and humanitarian youth program. Twenty years ago, Dr. Jane Goodall and a group of Tanzanian students started what has become a global movement of young people dedicated to creating a better world. Today in more than 120 countries, hundreds of thousands of Roots & Shoots members work together on youth-led service projects to improve communities and to make the world better for people, animals and the environment.
How can YOU help celebrate?
There's no better way to help celebrate and show your support than by marking this year with a project of your own to help make the world better for animals, people and the environment. We want to hear all about it, so either as you go along or at the end of it be sure to post a story and share what you've been working on. Every story posted makes your school eligible for a Roots & Shoots Award, and you could even be in the running for a chance to attend the Annual Jane Goodall Awards and meet Dr. Goodall in person! Here are some ideas from our US members to help get you started:
- Check out our online scrapbook to learn about our history and add your own story to the timeline. It's a multimedia timeline, so don't forget your photos and video.
- Speaking of photos, over the next couple of days, consider changing your profile picture on Facebook to your favorite project picture.
- While you're updating your photo, add the special 20th anniversary logo to your picture on Facebook. You can add it to Twitter too!
There are so many ways to celebrate. Get together with your groups and brainstorm other ways. Get ideas from our special 20th anniversary website, and plan your celebration today.
