Walk For Peace!

Anglia Ruskin University's Roots & Shoots society flew a giant Peace dove to mark our international day of peace. The society joined in with the celebratory walk, from Ely cathedral to Jesus Green in Cambridge. The walk was organized to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the diocese of Ely as well as the 800th anniversary of Cambridge University, as well as to acknowledge the lasting relationship between the two institutions.

The 17 mile walk commenced after a short service at Ely cathedral and progressed in to Cambridge. Roots & Shoots society members and committee joined the walk at the last meeting point at Chesterton along with the Vice-Chancellors of both Anglia Ruskin and Cambridge University. The 30+ strong group of walkers aided Roots & Shoots members by handing out leaflets about the charity Red Balloon and how to donate for their Learner Centre - Merseyside: £1,000,000 appeal. The vision is to provide an 'intensive care' programme of full-time education in a safe learning environment for children unable to go to school because they have been severely bullied. They aim to set up a center in Merseyside in Memory of James Bulger who would have been 18 last year.
