The wonderful Roots & Shoots Awards 2017

On Friday 3rd March, Roots & Shoots groups from around the UK descended on the iconic Barbican Centre in London for the annual Roots & Shoots Awards, and were joined by Dr Jane Goodall herself.Photo by Roger MarksAll about the Roots & Shoots AwardsThe Awards are an exciting and innovative way to recognise the achievement and innovation of our young ambassadors for the planet.Ten schools prepared displays, presenting and discussing with guests the amazing work they had undertaken:

The projects demonstrated imagination, determination and diligence, achieving tangible and measurable results ranging from fundraising for important causes to encouraging environmentally friendly practices in all aspects of society.“Each year brings even more inspirational and exciting projects from our members.   • Most Outstanding Group - Dulwich Prep London.Prize sponsored by RSPCA, the Winners will have the opportunity to see behind the scenes at the RSPCA’s animal hospital in Mallydams Wood in East Sussex, by spending a day with the vets and carers, who make such a difference to the lives of animals in need across England and Wales. Mallydams Wood is RSPCA’s premier wildlife rehabilitation centre with an award winning education centre!
  • Most Outstanding Individual - Joshua Holden, Accrington St Christopher's Church of England High School. Sponsored by Quest Overseas, Joshua will be invited to join a Quest Overseas’ team on one of their summer projects in South America or Africa.Options include the chance to work with rescued wild animals in the Bolivian Amazon, helping to build homes for single mothers in the Peruvian shanty town of Villa Maria or giving a new home to street children from Kigali, Rwanda.
  • Most Outstanding Photograph - National Geographic Kids prize: Claudia Quinn, James Allen's Prep School. Claudia will get the chance to become a NG Kids’ reporter for a day! She will spend a morning at NG Kids’ HQ, meet the team and find out how the magazine is created, before heading off on a special assignment as their guest reporter. She will then be asked to submit a short report on the experience, which will be published on the NG Kids website!
  • Most Outstanding Photograph - Raymond Blanc Prize: Rachael Fraser, University of Salford Roots & Shoots Team. Rachael will get to cook togerher with the well renowned chef.
  • Love Nature Documentary - Kyoka Seguchi, James Allen's Girls School. Kyoka will be flown out to join Love Nature’s film crews on location in the channel’s motherland—Canada—on an official Love Nature shoot. The top three entries will also be broadcast worldwide on the Love Nature Video Streaming App.Photo by Roger Marks
