Our Sunflower growing competition
Preparation for the allotment and kicking off our Sunflower growing competition!
We started planting our seeds in March in order to get a head start on our preparation and growing for the allotment this year. All the children spent time finding out what seeds could be planted in March, working out seed depth and sowing preparation to ensure the seeds had the best chance of germinating.
We have been permitted to use a community greenhouse, where we have kept our seedlings until they are ready to plant out into our raised beds. We also planted our sunflower seeds, which we will be lovingly nurturing into giant sunflowers, which will be judged based on the tallest sunflower, largest head, most bees spotted on the sunflower head at one time, funniest looking sunflower and the first sunflower head to open. So far, they are all growing well, and we’ll post an update on this later in the year!
